The Ca' Foscari University of Venice (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia) is a well-established educational institution in Italy. The 'Ca' Foscari' part of its name means the Foscari palace or house. It comes from the name of a Venetian building in the university that is located on the Grand Canal between San Marco and the Rialto.

Founded on August 6, 1868, the Foscari palace served as the seat of the Royal Higher Commercial College and was the first higher education institute in Italy to offer courses on commerce and economics. The concept of starting a university came about in 1866 after Veneto was united with Italy. The College became an institute known for training businessmen and a training school for teachers of commercial subjects in secondary school.

It was recognized as a fully-fledged university in 1968. Today, the Ca' Foscari University of Venice has four faculties training around 10,000 students.

Facilities

The University of Venice is host to many student facilities like several student cafés and restaurants catering to the students attending courses in Mira, Mestre, and Treviso.

It has numerous indoor and outdoor sports facilities including swimming pools, fitness and weight rooms, football pitches, tennis courts, and running fields. They provide the students with opportunities to play socially, learn a new sport, improve a previously known sport, or participate in a university team.
